BIGTIME KAPATID

Since there is soooo much to post, I thought I’d do a “best of the best” round up of the last 18 hours. We have mega posts below, so please scroll down so you don’t miss a thing!
First up, I encourage everyone to check Archuleta Philippines and FollowArchuleta frequently. Both sites are doing an incredible job of updating.

Here’s the first article I’ve seen with details of David’s schedule and some info about his role in the mini-series!

Yes, it’s true.
American Idol alumnus David Archuleta confirmed what he announced during his My Kind of Christmas Tour in Salt Lake City in December last year that he was going on a two-year leave from the music industry.
“I will serve a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-Day Saints,” he said at a presscon at the EDSA Shangri-La yesterday after he signed a contract to do a soap for TV5.
He arrived on a PAL flight at 5:30 yesterday morning from L.A., obviously jet-lagged from the 12-plus long haul but was nevertheless as engaging as he has always been during his visits to Manila. His first was in 2009 when he did a concert with his namesake, AI champ David Cook, followed by two more only several months apart for a solo concert and for an album promo.
David is here for more than two weeks to shoot for the soap that will premiere third week of February, with Jasmine Curtis-Smith and Eula Caballero as his leading ladies and L.A.-based G Tongi as his mother (G also arrived yesterday).
In the soap titled Nandito Ako (with David himself singing the Ogie Alcasid-composed song in Tagalog), the soap, directed by Mac Alejandre, will run for five weeks.
Perci Intalan, TV5 Creative and Entertainment head, told Funfare that David will deliver bilingual dialogue (English mixed with a few Tagalog words) in his role as a Fil-Am singer in search of his mother. An acting greenhorn, David took a crash course in acting in L.A. before he flew in.

“David’s character spends five years in the Philippines before going to the US, kaya nakakaintindi siya ng Tagalog pero hindi siya nakakapag-salita,” explained Perci. “He will attend a story conference (set for today), record the theme song and do pictorials. And then he starts shooting the next day.”
Asked how much TV5 was paying David, Perci was mum, saying, “Mahal but it’s worth it.”
TV5 executive vice president/COO Bobby Barreiro, who was also present at the contract-signing together with TV5 president/CEO lawyer Ray Espinosa, described David as “mabait na bata.”
Fearing that David would be mobbed during the mostly outdoor shoot, TV5 offered to assign a few bodyguards to him but David declined.
“He arrived with only one companion,” added Perci. “Walang entourage.”
After the shoot, David said that he wouldn’t be doing any other showbiz-related projects since he would buckle down to his mission to serve God.
“I made the promise even before I decided to come to the Philippines,” assured David.

The lovely TOFan transcribed a few things from the presscon on SnowAngelz. I added them below as they are my favorites parts too!
Fave parts:
=> The host, when asked “Why did you choose David?” answering: “You couldn’t ask for a better leading man that that.” Yes!!!!
=> David recording songs before mission to be released while he’s away. Yes!!!! David: “I didn’t just want to leave my fans (waves) ‘OK, see ya! I’m leaving everything!’ –I want to make sure I have something to still give to my fans… I already have certain projects I’m trying to plan for when I get back.” Yes!!!
=> Talking about what type of mission he’ll be doing:
“I’ll be doing what you see of those guys that you see on the bikes with the little ties… it’s very focused on service, serving the people, loving your community, and being able to teach and it’s very much about sacrifice as well. Because you know for me it was very hard, because it was a lot to have to sacrifice, but for me that’s my personal reason why I wanted to go, is because of what you sacrifice and what you learn from sacrifice… so I feel like even though this will definitely not be the easiest thing, I’m leaving a lot of things I love, not having my family around, not having the career in music, those secure things in my life, I know that I’ll grow a lot in a way that I haven’t been able to yet, which I’m really looking forward to.”
=> Concerts when he gets back? “OF COURSE!!!” Yes!!! to the enthusiastic answer. “It’s who I am.” *sniff*
=> Where are you going? “Haven’t announced that yet… there are projects I’ll be more prepared for when I get back.” Hmm… and Yes!!!
And a special ***glomp*** to the person who asked about Elevator, “Reflective of my life at that time” :) :)

David Archuleta looks forward to more fun in the Philippines.

After filming Nandito Ako, Archuleta is all set to depart to the assigned place for his missionary work. But fans, he says, need not be disheartened. “I’m not just going to leave like that. I’ll still be making songs. I want to make sure that I will still be giving something to my fans. Two years goes by too fast, it’s been four years since American idol. It’s a part of my life and it’s an important decision that I’ve always wanted to do with my life. Certainly, there are projects already lined up that I’ll be doing when I get back.”
